With six confirmed swine flu cases , the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), which covers a population of over 10 lakh, has started eight screening centres.

The first patient was diagnosed on July 31 and sent to Aundh Hospital for treatment. Pimpri-Chinchwad adjoins Pune and is a prime industrial area in the state.
Several people work in close proximity to each other, raising the danger of infection.
PCMC Medical Director Dr Rajkumar Iyyer said all eight centres have a team of doctors, and suspected cases are referred to Aundh or Naidu hospital.
Iyyer said all six confirmed patients have been quarantined are being treated. All those who were in touch with them are being screened too.
PCMC has undertaken survey of residents within a 100-mt radius of the patients’ homes.
