Focus on role of private sector in corruption: CVC

Stressing the need for bringing about improvement in corporate governance, Central Vigilance Commissioner Pratyush Sinha on Thursday sought to focus on the role of private sector in offering bribe.

Stressing the need for bringing about improvement in corporate governance, Central Vigilance Commissioner Pratyush Sinha on Thursday sought to focus on the role of private sector in offering bribe.

"It's important that when we are discussing probity in public life... When issues of corruption are being highlighted everywhere, but mostly about public administration.. Mostly about governments... We should not ignore the role of private sector," he said.

"Let's not forget about their (private sector's) contribution in this whole sordid affair (corruption)," Sinha said in his address to second anniversary celebrations of Vigilance Study Circle, Bangalore Chapter, in Bangalore.

He said whenever one takes up the issue of corruption, one tries to handle it only from the demand side.

"What about the supply side of corruption which is entirely or mostly in the private sector domain and that's why corporate governance assumes big responsibility in fighting corruption in the country," the CVC said.
