The 20-year-old England and Manchester United striker said Friday he was "excited" about the deal. The five-book series, which will be ghost-written, would contain "some surprises", he promised.
The first volume, to be published by HarperCollins, which is owned by media magnate Rupert Murdoch, is due to hit the bookshelves in July.
The follow-up books - over the next 12 years - will cover the rest of Rooney's playing career.
It was also reported Friday that Rooney is in talks about a multi-million advertising deal for a leading supermarket chain.
The current record for best-selling sporting autobiographies is currently held by star footballer David Beckham, whose book, My Side, has sold more than 500,000 copies.
