K Gopalan, a former member of Rajya Sabha, died of prolonged illness at his residence on Friday morning.

K Gopalan, a former member of Rajya Sabha, died of prolonged illness at his residence in Kozhikode on Friday morning, family sources said.

Besides being a member of the erstwhile Madras Legislative Council, Gopalan had also served as the state Secretary of the undivided Congress after being the DCC President. He was also an AICC member for some time.

He was 89 and is survived by four children. His wife had predeceased him.

He was also the former President of Janata party's Kerala unit.
