Vishnu Mohan, 83, was keeping good health but developed some problems a week ago, the family said. He is survived by his wife and three daughters.

The Tamil Nadu Tennis Association (TNTA) passed a resolution condoling his death.

Vishu Mohan, an extremely strong doubles player, reached the Wimbledon mixed doubles main round via the qualifying round.

Ranked number three in India, he had won national titles in domestic circuit and represented the country in the then Indo-Ceylon championships regularly.

M A Alagappan, TNTA President, said Vishnu Mohan would be remembered for his fighting qualities on court.

"He was a gentle and friendly person off court. Despite his age, Vishnu Mohan rarely missed watching matches in ATP events here. He was guide to many up and coming players during his playing days," Alagappan said condoling Vishnu Mohan's death.

He said he still remembered a 1952 marathon tie when Ramanathan Krishnan defeated Vishnu Mohan in the East Zone tournament in Patna.
