McLaren's Lewis Hamilton will line up alongside the German world champion on the front row.

Mark Webber in the second Red Bull and the Ferrari of Felipe Massa occupy the second row.

The Mercedes of Nico Rosberg came in fifth with Torro Rosso's Jaime Alguersuari in sixth and Rednault's new recruit Bruno Senna in seventh ahead of Ferrari's Fernando Alonso.

Michael Schumacher, celebrating his 20th anniversary since making his Formula One debut, will set off at the rear of the grid after crashing in Q1.

Hamilton set out on Q3 with his car patched up with tape after the 2008 champion was involved in a controversial incident with Williams' Pastor Maldonado who deliberately took a swipe at the Briton's car.

A strategy error cost Hamilton's teammate Jenson Button a place in the top ten after the winner in Hungary last time out trailed in 13th in Q2.

"I did my first lap and then cooled the tyres not knowing I didn't have any laps left. I was second quickest when I did my lap and then I didn't get another chance. Wow, that is massively disappointing and a huge shock.

"A big mistake on our part. In every practice session we've been in top three. Tough been back in 13th but we've got to deal with it."
