Four Garo militants were gunned down and five others arrested during an encounter with security forces in East Garo Hills district of Meghalaya early on Friday.

The encounter took place around 3:00 a m at Gajingpara near Mendipathar when security forces were conducting a combing operation, the police said.

The militants belonged to the Garo National Liberation Army and were yet to be identified. Three pistols were recovered from them.
