Two terrorists were killed in the exchange of fire at Behrampora in Pattan area on Sunday, a defence spokesman said.

He said firing between terrorists and security forces began on Saturday morning and was still going on when last reports were received.

Commanding officer of the 29 Rashtriya Rifles, Col GS Sarna, was killed and two jawans injured in the initial firefight in the village on Saturday.

In the other ongoing gunbattle at Dangerpora in Sopore area, two terrorists of al-Mansoorian outfit, Abu Usman and Abu Saad were killed and three police personnel injured, a police spokesman said.

He said the exchange of fire in the village broke out last evening when a joint search party of police and army raided a suspected hideout.

The firefight came to halt with sunset last evening but security forces maintained a tight vigil at Behrampora and Dangerpora to prevent the terrorists from escaping during the night, the sources said.

The offensive was launched with the first break of light on Sunday.
