If you meet with an accident on a national highway, soon you may be offered immediate medical aid absolutely free of cost.
In a bid to ensure that accident victims on the highways get ‘golden hour’ treatment (treatment offered within an hour of an accident), the ministry of road transport and highways (MoRTH) is in the process of finalizing the plan.
Talking to HT, Oscar Farnandes, minister MoRTH said that: “The victims do not need any kind of insurance to avail the facility. The government will take care of it. This would be one of the measures, which would help reducing the fatalities among the road accident victims.”
According to the 201 report of the Law Commission, at least 50% of the fatalities can be averted if victims are admitted to a hospital within the first one hour.
“We will extend the facility on two highways within a few months and further expand it to the other highways,” said Oscar Farnandes.
The facility is operational on Gurgaon-Jaipur highway from two months now.
Under the scheme, there would be arrangements of ambulances, which would rush the victims to the nearest private or government hospitals and pay directly to the hospital for their treatments.
