Freedom fighter dies, Hooda pays tribute

Freedom fighter Captain Ranjit Singh Sangha, 97, died after prolonged illness on Sunday. He was cremated with full state-honours at Daroli Bhai village. His son Gurcharan Singh Sangha lit the pyre, while a contingent of the Punjab Police reversed its arms. Captain Sangha was the working president of All India Freedom Fighter Organisation.

Freedom fighter Captain Ranjit Singh Sangha, 97, died after prolonged illness on Sunday. He was cremated with full state-honours at Daroli Bhai village. His son Gurcharan Singh Sangha lit the pyre, while a contingent of the Punjab Police reversed its arms. Captain Sangha was the working president of All India Freedom Fighter Organisation.

Sangha joined the Indian freedom struggle in 1936 and later joined the Indian National Army (INA), started by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose in 1942. He also spent some days in jails in Germany.Post-retirement, Sangha started work for the welfare of freedom fighter's families.

Maheshinder Singh Grewal, adviser to Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, who represented the Punjab government, laid wreath on the mortal remains of freedom fighter.

Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said, "We can never forget our freedom fighters and their families that bring autonomy for all Indians. My father and Sangha fought together for the country."

Hooda had played an important role in the formation of the All India Freedom Fighter OrganisationMahehinder Singh Grewal said that the Punjab government is going to make memorial of freedom fighters at Kartarpur in Kapurthala where history of the freedom struggle will be displayed as well as pictures of freedom fighters also will be presented at the memorial house.

Former agriculture minister jathedar Tota Singh, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee chief Partap Singh Bajwa, Malti Thapar, president, Punjab Mahila Congress, Amit Kumar, additional deputy commissioner, Moga, former sports minister Darshan Singh Brar, Punjab Youth Congress general secretary Sukhwinder Singh Danny, local MLA Joginder Pal Jain, superintendent of police Dilbagh Singh Pannu, along with freedom fighter Master Karta ram Jaitu, attended the cremation.
