Addressing his first election rally in Telangana from Mahbubnagar, an area known for underdevelopment, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi asked people to choose between big and small dreams.

“Your state is formed now and you can choose to dream small or dream big. But small dreams, steps would not take us far,” Rahul said.

Though the first half of his speech was exactly the same, to sequence of points, as what Sonia Gandhi had said in Karimnagar rally earlier — Congress gave Telangana, TRS has no role, BJP-TDP opposed the bill, promises for Telangana and so on — Rahul later went ahead with his vision for the new state to woo the voters.

“Now, gadgets say Made in China … development here should be such that such gadgets should have the Made in Telangana tag,” Rahul said.

Though his speech was in Hindi and was being translated into Telugu, the predominantly rural crowd lapped up some sentences that they understood directly.

Claiming that it was the Congress government that brought computers to the country and that only Congress has an all-inclusive developmental agenda, Rahul warned that TRS was only after power.

Rahul later addressed another rally at Nizamabad, another Telangana town north of Hyderabad.
