Hundreds of Bharatiya Janata Party workers, including its national party president, Nitin Gadkari on Friday courted arrest in Nagpur as part of the party’s nation-wide agitation on rising inflation and the recent hike in petroleum products.
Launching the party’s “jail bharo” agitation in Nagpur this afternoon, Gadkari criticised the Congress led-UPA government for its failure on all fronts.
“The government has lost the confidence of the common man and it has failed on all fronts. Moreover, it was indulging in anti-people policies and corruption,” he alleged before courting arrest himself and the party workers near busy variety square in Sitabuldi locality.
On the recent hike in petroleum products, he alleged that the union government was not reducing the price of petrol despite the prices of crude oil coming down in the international market. “While justifying the fuel prices, the government claimed that it had to hike the prices of petrol because of increase in crude oil. Now the rate of crude oil has come down. Even now the government is not reducing the price,” he pointed out.
The BJP leader said that the common people were suffering a lot due to hefty price rise. Even the farmers were not happy because of drastic in prices of Urea and Fertilizers and thus still they were committing suicides. The industries were facing closure due to faulty policies of the UPA government.

{{/usCountry}}Gadkari asked why the UPA government was reluctant to declare the list of black money depositors in Swiss Banks. He said probably Congress knew if the list of account holders is made public, many prominent Congress leaders will be exposed.
The prominent BJP leaders, who courted arrest themselves, along with Gadkari, include: the Rajya Sabha member, Ajay Sancheti, the former Lok Sabha member Banwarilal Purohit, legislators, Krishna Khopde, Vikas Kumbhare, Sudhir Parve, Nana Patole and the city mayor Anil Sole.
The BJP president Gadkari on Friday demanded an impartial probe by a sitting or a retired judge of the Supreme Court into the huge fire that engulfed the upper three stories of mantralaya building in Mumbai on Thursday.
According to him, the credibility of the DF government is at stake as rumors are doing the rounds that important files of “various scams” might have been gutted in the fire. “It would be appropriate for the Prithviraj Chavan government to constitute a probe panel under the chairmanship of a sitting or a retired judge of the Supreme Court to dispel the mystery of the fire among the general public,” he added.
