The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) appeared to be the biggest loser Wednesday with indications that it had lost 10 seats in the Jharkhand assembly election while the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha-Prajantantrik (JVM-P) floated by former BJP man Babulal Marandi was the biggest gainer.
The JVM-P, which was formed in 2006, was poised to win 10 seats. It had fought the election in alliance with the Congress, contesting 20 seats and going in for a friendly fight in five constituencies.
According to trends available, the BJP has either won or was leading in 20 constituencies -- 10 less than in 2005.
It was a shock for many BJP leaders, some of whom had hoped to get as many as 40 seats in the 81-member assembly on their own. To make things worse, partner Janata Dal-United (JD-U) also came down to two from six seats.
The Congress has also gained in the poll by winning or leading in 13 seats. In the 2005 assembly election, it had won nine seats.
The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has also succeeded in improving its tally by leading or winning 18 seats -- one more in comparison to the 2005 assembly poll. The RJD has also lost two seats, reducing its tally from seven to five.
