“The GGL had also awarded work for marketing of connections to a firm MRFC, which has already begun a door-to-door campaign in Ashiana and Krishna Nagar—the areas close to the company’s ‘mother station’,” GGL (Commercial) director RK Sharma told HT Lucknow Live.

He said the entire work for the first phase of the project would be completed within four months. “The GGL is in the process of seeking permission for supply of piped natural gas to the residents of Irrigation Colony also during the first phase,” Sharma said.

“We have sufficient natural gas supply to meet the demand. We are in the process of laying a pipeline network covering 31 kms of geographical area during the first phase,” Sharma said.

As regards the GGL encountering problems in acquiring Government clearance, he said, “Lucknow Division Commissioner RK Mittal, on directives of the Bhurelal Committee at a meeting held to review the GGL City Gas Project on June 9 this year, in the State capital, has asked all concerning State Government Departments to co-operate in the project,” adding that, “the Commissioner has also announced that another meeting would be held in Lucknow to review the progress of the project”.

Replying to a query on Union Ministry of Petroleum’s reported directive to focus on supplying natural gas as part of the ‘City Gas’ projects initially to the Transport and the Domestic Sectors, he said, “Who says there are restrictions on supplying natural gas to commercial establishments? But that depends on how soon the pipeline work for supply of natural gas is completed in the State capital”.
