The decision was taken by GDA’s top brass which recently carried out a survey to check unauthorised construction in the city. Previously, a group of junior engineers were assigned a specific area under their charge.

For now, the city is divided into eight zones. The zones are divided into around 177 sectors with a junior engineer heading each sector area.

“This will make the staff more accountable and the in-charge will be held accountable in case any violations in constructions are detected. During previous occasions, several officials were suspended who were assigned an area. Now, the accountability will be specific for an individual,” authority’s officer on special duty DP Singh told HT.

In a first-of-its-kind survey carried out recently, the GDA last week sealed two towers comprising 170 flats at Nyay-Khand-II area of Indirapuram and also initiated action against several of its engineers who were collectively responsible for the area. The new arrangement of assigning a specific sector to an individual officer was envisaged after the sealing activity.
