“We have introduced this service on the basis of the memorandum of understanding we signed with the state government on March 18. We have deployed a 17-seater twin-engine Dauphin helicopter here, which will be used for the joyride services and also for disaster management,” said Sanjay Kumar, general manager (marketing) of Pawan Hans.

Kolkatans can avail the 10-minute joyride to get a bird’s eye view of Kolkata. The chopper ride would start from the Behala airstrip and cost Rs 1,700 per person. West Bengal Tourism Department will do the booking.

According to Kumar, Pawan Hans would soon start operations between Kolkata and Cooch Behar and also introduce services to industrial towns of the state like Durgapur and Haldia. “We have also charted plans to procure seaplanes. Once infrastructure like a proper jetty is ready in places like Digha, Kakdwip and Sagar, we would introduce seaplane services as well,” said Kumar.
