A councillor, who is also a zonal chairman from Ghaziabad’s Vasundhara area, was arrested on Tuesday with more than 1,800 bottles of top-quality of liquor bottles.
The police said the bottles were to be smuggled to other parts of the city.
On Tuesday, the police arrested Pradeep Chaudhary and five of his accomplices from the industrial area in Sahibabad. They also recovered from his possession the liquor bottles, which were allegedly brought from Haryana. The officials also recovered several bottles with rectified spirit.
“The gang operated from their homes and placed orders with several distributors in Haryana. These people were also known to prepare illicit liquor by mixing spirits from different brands,” senior superintendent of police (SSP) Raghubir Lal said. “They earned anything up to Rs 2 lakh per transaction. We will slap the gangster act on the six accused.”
“The gang operated on a large scale and the main accused has 18 criminal cases against him. He is also a history-sheeter at Link Road police station in Ghaziabad,” station officer of Link Road police station, Avnish Gautam, said.
According to the police, Chaudhary was also involved in an abduction case of a jeweller from Sector 58, Noida, about two years ago. They said he was also jailed in connection with his father’s murder case.

{{/usCountry}}The police said Chaudhary has a Rs 20,000 reward on his head. The accused said he was presently with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and had won the election while he was with the Samajwadi Party.
Lal said district BSP officials have denied Chaudhary’s claims and also stated that he had no primary-membership with the BSP.
