South African opener Herschelle Gibbs will arrive in Mumbai on Thursday for interrogation by the Indian Police on the matter of match-fixing scandal of 2000, Cricket South Africa has said.
"He will arrive in Mumbai with his lawyer via Dubai early on Thursday," said CSA spokesperson Tshepo Tsotsotso said.
Initially it was reported that Gibbs and his lawyer would arrive in New Delhi where they would be questioned by Police commission K K Paul.
"According to my information, Gibbs will be in Mumbai where he will be interviewed by the Indian police," Tsotsotso said.
He said after being interviewed, Gibbs would join the South Africa team to prepare for their opening match against New Zealand in the Champions Trophy tournament.
Gibbs and his fellow player Nicky Boje are reported to have been involved in a match-fixing scam with late Hansie Cronje during South Africa's tour of India in 2000.
Gibbs and Boje were subsequently banned for six months each by the South African cricket authorities. Cronje, who was banned for life, died in a plane crash two years ago.
Gibbs and Boje had refused to travel to India previously fearing detention by the police there. Boje was not picked for the Champions Trophy tournament.
