Gill begins 1,800 km run for literacy

His two-month long 1,800 km journey will touch various parts of the State. Organising committee president Aamir Ahmed Khan Durrani told reporters the objective of the programme was to generate awareness for literacy. “We had launched a programme ‘Ab angutha nahin lagega’ last year under which we started a campaign to promote literacy among people.

More than 8,000 people in the first phase of the programme learned to sign,” said Durrani. Run for literacy was the second edition of that programme, he added.

Ajit started his run from Roshanpura and will pass through Indore, Ujjain, Gwalior, Sagar, Satna, Rewa, Jabalpur, Hoshangabad and will be back on June 30 after covering 1800 km. “I want to see 100 per cent literacy in the State. I hope my run will send the message among the masses about the importance of school for children,” said Ajit.

On the occasion, Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK) vice chairperson Meenakshi Natrajan, vice principal Raja Bhoj School Savita Puri, former international hockey star Sameer Daad and others were present.
