
Girl dies after fall from hostel, parents allege ragging
Parents of a 19-year-old girl, who died after falling off the terrace of her hostel building in Hansol area in Ahmedabad on Monday, alleged that their daughter was a victim of ragging.
Ankita Vegda, a first year B.Sc student at the Singhi Institute of Nursing, died after she fell off the terrace of her hostel building on Monday morning.
However, the girl's father Ganpat Vegda alleged that his daughter Ankita was a victim of ragging.
"My daughter was ragged and I believe that was the cause of her death," Vegda told journalists. Vegda and his family members had rushed to the nursing institute after they heard about the incident from the institute authorities.
Ankita's mother and younger sister also alleged that she was subjected to ragging by the senior students of the nursing institute.
The institute authorities said that Ankita had fallen off the terrace and denied of any incident of ragging.
Police said that they are investigating the case and until they get the post-mortem report, they will not be able to comment on the incident.
Whether the death of Ankita was an accident, suicide or murder is yet to be investigated, they added.
