TEENAGE GIRLS came out in large numbers to vote in the civic elections, but they were shocked to see police high-handedness and SP workers’ bid to capture polling booths.
Shubhi Singh, a teenage girl voting at Adarsh Park centre, said, “I have voted for the first time. It’s a great feeling. I have realised how important my vote is. But, goondaism killed my enthusiam. Is it democracy?”
Shazia, another teenager, vowed never to vote again in her life after the bad incident in Narpatkhera SBN Montessori School Hiaderganj ward. She was injured in the brickbatting between Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party workers.
“If this is democracy, I don’t like it,” she said.
Aradhna Sharma, a student of Lucknow University who came to vote for the first time in the civic elections was surprised to see the amount of foul play by the ruling party workers in the Sarojini Nagar ward. “I have come here to cast my vote but I am being told that my vote has already been cast. How could anyone cast my vote? This is not democracy.”
Anushri Mishra, a student of IT College, said she was excited as she was first-time voter. “There was no trouble at my centre and I enjoyed my first vote.”
Sanjay Sharma, a in Sarojini Nagar ward, alleged that workers of a political party have brought him on car from his house to the polling station and would leave him in his house too. He said for the first time he was feeling important.
