Lamenting at unstable governments in Jharkhand, JMM president Shibu Soren on Saturday appealed to people of the state to ensure majority for a party in the next elections so that it can provide a stable administration.
"Vote your party of choice, but give it not less then 50 seats," the former chief minister said, referring to unstable governments in the state that had witnessed six coalitions in almost as many years.
All governments in the state had a fragile alliance that proved a major hindrance in ensuring stability.
Jharkhand, carved out of Bihar in 2000, has an 82-member assembly out of which 81 are elected and one is nominated.
Addressing a party rally in Ranchi, Soren said the coming three months were crucial in the wake of impending elections.
"I fought for the state for over 40 years, but the people who had opposed for a separate state are now enjoying power," he lamented.
Soren had resigned as chief minister in January this year following his defeat in a by-poll and consequent failure to enter the state assembly, leading to the imposition of President's rule on January 19.
Union Home Minister P Chidambaram, who visited Ranchi at the end of last month, had said the Election Commission could announce poll dates for Jharkhand only after the October 13 elections in Maharashtra, Haryana and Arunachal Pradesh.
