towards developing Bhopal City as global environment city. Addressing a press conference along with a couple of CITU leaders, she said gas victims in areas adjacent to deserted Union Carbide factory continue to consume poisonous drinking water and neither the State nor the Union Government has shown any concern towards the urgent need to provide them clean
drinking water despite intervention of the Supreme Court in the matter.

She said in such a situation, a proposal to develop Bhopal as global environment city seems ridiculous. She further said CPM general secretary Prakash Karat had written a letter to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh in this regard.

He had also raised other important issues concerning gas victims in his letter. Karnik, while suggesting that Left leaders had always been sympathetic towards the cause of Bhopal gas victims, said Left parliamentarians Vrinda Karath and T K Hamaza recently raised a number of issues of gas victims in Parliament.

Sarvar Ansari, P N Verma and Pushan Bhattacharya also addressed the press conference.
