JUNIOR DOCTORS and undergraduate students of Gandhi Medical College (GMC), Bhopal, continued their protests against the proposed reservation Bill on the second day today.
The anti-reservation group of junior doctors pitched a tent on the Hamidia Hospital premises and staged a dharna. Two protestors even got their heads tonsured to register their opposition to reservation in medical education institutions.
A ‘sadbudhi yagya’ (offering of prayers to seek wisdom for (HRD Minister) Arjun Singh to withdraw his decision was held at Gandhi Medical College in Bhopal by hundreds of protestors, according to Junior Doctors Association (JDA) vice-president Amit Tyagi.
The students formed a human chain as part of protests. The chain formed by almost 500 students, which started from the State Bank of India Square, reached up to the GMC building.
Later, a delegation of students reached the Governor House and met Governor Dr Balram Jakhar at about 10.30 am. MP Junior Doctors’ Association (MPJDA) vice-president Dr Hitesh Sharma led the delegation.
“The Governor assured us of discussing the matter in New Delhi for our benefit,’’ Dr Hitesh told the Hindustan Times. He added the agitations would continue till a response in their favour was received from the Centre.
The agitators took out a candle march in the evening. The march began at around 7 pm from the GMC and went through several areas of the walled city. About 400 students took part in the march that culminated at Roshanpura Square.

Stir should not affect patients, medicos told
STATE BHARATIYA Janata Party (BJP) Doctors’ Cell has advised agitating medicos to make sure that their stir does not adversely affect patients. State BJP doctors’ cell president Hitesh Bajpai told Hindustan Times, students should bear in mind the Congress and Arjun Singh provoke people’s sentiments for political mileage. Thus, he cautioned them not to get trapped in their tricks and resort to any violent agitation.
He said the State BJP medical cell will take steps to convey the sentiments of medical students to the Union Government. Criticising police action against medical students, he said raising voice for one’s cause in a democratic manner was not a crime in India but the administration had dealt with them as if they had committed an offence.
