Imagine exploring faraway destinations in India in a paltry Rs 3,000? For Neha Dixit, it’s no big deal. The 29-year-old hosts the travel show No Big Deal, that promotes eco-tourism. Dixit assures, “It’s eco-friendly, as well as economy-friendly.” The show, that features on NDTV Good Times, won the ITA Award for Best Travel Show 2009.
In its second season now, it’s targeting the adventurous traveller who wants to travel more, but is prevented by the money factor. “We’re especially looking at college students and young professionals,” she says. Dixit, who is also the show’s producer, adds, “Many a times, money is the factor that binds us from visiting places that we wish to. We’ve tried to break this notion that one can’t travel in a limited amount of money; rather, one can shop too.”
“The show focuses on places close to popular tourist destinations. Giving you information about where you can eat, stay, roam around and get little souvenirs in Rs 3,000 once you are at a particular place. We plan to showcase destinations outside India, where we will tweak the budget a little more,” says Arun Thapar, head travel and luxury programming, NDTV Lifestyle.
