Goa fest ends with awards galore

After discussing the problems ailing the advertising industry for two days, advertising professionals spent the third day of the Goafest 2007, reports Saurabh Turakhia.

After discussing the problems ailing the advertising industry for two days, advertising professionals spent the third day of the Goafest 2007, the Indian Advertising Conclave conducted by the AAAI, counting the awards won by in Creative and Media category.

While Mindshare and JWT shone at the first ever Media awards with three golds each, it was Rediffusion DY&R outshone other agencies with three golds and nine silers in the Creative category. Rediffusion DY&R won a total of four golds and sixteen silvers while McCann Erickson grabbed two golds and 12 silvers. McCann Erickson and JWT both won a grand prix each in the categories Outdoor and Television respectively for their entries ' Happy Dent Palace' and 'Firestarter'.

Others major performers in the Creative category were Grey Worldwide and Leo Burnett. Grey picked up a gold and 12 silvers while Leo Burnett filled its kitty with 10 silver awards. No gold awards were given in the 'Press' and 'Radio' categories.

JWT also clinched two silver awards while Mindshare took away four silver and two bronze awards. Mindshare and JWT also got a joint silver award in the category 'Best use of mixed media' for the entry 'Welcome to Axeland'.

Prasoon Joshi, Executive Chairman, McCann Erickson opined that in the ‘Press’ category, the quality of ideas did not match up to the standards of craft.

Commending the AAAI for the conclave, Sam Balsara, Chairman and Managing Director, Madison felt that the introduction of media awards at the Goafest has made the event bigger. He said it would be interesting to involve industry members from as far as Srinagar and Cochin. “We can probably make it a four day festival then,” he said.

The jury included eminent industry people like Shashi Sinha, Lynn de Souza, Punitha Arumugam, Nandini Dias among others. Sam Balsara, Chairman and Managing Director, Madison gave away all the awards and iterated that a transparent judging process was followed for the judging process.
