The truck drivers engaged in iron ore mines in Goa will now get training through simulators to face the actual road rage in the costal state.“All the truck drivers on the mines will be given training on simulators. They will be subjected to actual road condition through it,” Goa Group Vocational Training Centre (GGVTC) President Sameer Salgaoncar told reporters. The GGVTC is an organisation sponsored by Goa mine owners imparting vocational and safety training to mine workers.Salgaoncar added that the simulator will be installed at GGVT’s Ponda office, which will give on-job safety training for the drivers.

Goa has 2307 trucks and equal number of drivers employed through various mine firms, mostly extracting iron ore.“We have imparted safety training to around 1077 drivers without simulator. The centre feels that at some point of time, Goa government should bring in legislation which will make only those truck drivers with GGVTC certificate eligible to ply on Goan roads,” Salgaoncar said.

Allaying the allegations that mine owners are not bothered about the safety, Salgaoncar said that the centre has been active since 1974 and has done commendable job in training the mine workers.
