THERE IS more good news for the State which was until recently rain-starved. The present phase of rainfall is expected to continue for another week, as a fresh weather system has started developing over the Bay of Bengal and will keep precipitating rains in the region.
The entire State is receiving good rains since the last four days and if the rains continue for another week, a lot of shortfall will be compensated.
Director of the Regional Meteorological Centre Dr D P Dubey said although the low-pressure area, which was over the State has weakened after moving nearer to Gwalior, another system is developing over the Bay of Bengal that will keep feeding moisture to the central region of the country.
The present phase of rains began on July 17 and since then good rains have been recorded in the State including the State Capital.
During last 24 hours (ending 8.30 am on Thursday) too, good rains were recorded. Bhind recorded 6 cm of rains, Susner – 5 cm, Kannod – 4 cm and Hoshangabad, Dhar, Ashok Nagar and Sheopur Kalan recorded 3 cm of rains each.
Bhopal Airport recorded 4.4 mm and the City recorded 6.6 mm of rain during this period. On Thursday until 5.30 pm, Guna recorded 68 mm of rains, Khajuraho – 30 mm, Hoshangabad – 15 mm and Satna – 16 mm of rains. Bhopal airport recorded 2.0 mm and the City recorded 2.6 mm till this time. However, heavier rains hit the Capital later in the evening and continued into the night.
