The Karnataka ball is now in President Prathiba Patil’s court. Governor Rameshwar Thakur on Wednesday evening sent a report on the political crisis to the President through a special emissary. The report, however, has not listed any suggestions on the claims of the BJP-Janata Dal (S) combine to knit a new coalition after the previous one by the same partners collapsed on October 8.
“The report is a narration of events, statements and action of all three political parties and their leaders ever since the crisis surfaced over transfer of power (October 2). It includes affidavits submitted by 129 legislators, memoranda submitted by these leaders or letters written by them to the Governor and newspaper clippings of events related to the crisis," sources in Raj Bhavan said.
“The President is away and so she will read the report on November 2. The Cabinet will look at it in a day or two," the sources added.
In Delhi, a high-level BJP delegation led by L.K. Advani and party chief Rajnath Singh, met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and demanded that immediate steps be taken to ensure formation of a government in the state. The Prime Minister assured the delegation that the Centre will go "by the spirit of the Constitution but did not give any specific time-frame" regarding lifting of President's rule in the state, BJP Vice President Venkaiah Naidu said.
