'Govt not responsible for CBI report about Tytler'

Defence Minister AK Antony said the Government had no role in the CBI’s decision to close the probe against his party colleague Jagdish Tytler in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case, but said the Sikh community had a right to express their sentiments.

Defence Minister AK Antony on Friday said the Government had no role in the CBI’s decision to close the probe against his party colleague Jagdish Tytler in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case, but said the Sikh community had a right to express their sentiments.

“It is not the Union Government’s decision. The report was given by the CBI,” he said in response to questions on the issue at a meet-the-press programme in Thiruvananthapuram.

“On the other side, the Sikh community is naturally wounded. The 1984 incident was a tragedy. Their wounds are still there. So, they have a right to express their apprehension,” he said, when asked about the community being anguished over CBI’s decision to give a clean chit to Tytler.
