THE HIGHER Education Department of the State Government has decided to soften its stand on issuance of no-objection certificates to the B Ed colleges keeping in view the fact that the colleges have already admitted students for this academic session and their career might be affected if the imbroglio continues.
For this purpose, special approval of the chancellor is required and the Higher Education Department will soon put up all relevant documents to the Raj Bhavan, sources in the department told the Hindustan Times. The Governor is said to have indicated that the matter would be resolved by placing it at the meeting of the Universities Coordination Committee (UCC).
A considerable number of B Ed colleges, which were given permission by the National Council of Technical Education do not have the no-objection certificate from the Higher Education Department. The number of such colleges is around 86.
In absence of the no-objection certificate, the colleges would not get affiliation from the universities concerned and thus the students of these colleges would not be eligible to appear for the exams. The matter has been on the boil since long now with the government insisting on no-objection certificate and several colleges insisting that no such certificate is required following a Supreme Court ruling that holds the permission by the NCTE good enough.
A meeting on Friday was held at the Mantralaya wherein the representatives of Rajya Shiksha Kendra – who are responsible to finally publish the list of B Ed colleges that have NCTE permission – holding discussions with the senior officials of the Higher Education Department. During the meeting, it was decided that keeping in view the welfare of students, no objection certificates would be issued this year by the department and special approval of the Governor would be sought for the matter.
