CBI director Ranjit Sinha on Friday questioned the maintainability of activist organisation, Centre for Public Interest and Litigation’s (CPIL) application asking the Supreme Court to remove him from supervising the 2G spectrum probe.

The demand came as probe agency chief met several senior executives from companies under investigation in the case.

Responding to a court notice, Ranjit Sinha said it was not open to CPIL to argue on the basis of a document filed in the SC without disclosing the name of the whistle-blower who provided it with information regarding those who visited the CBI chief’s 2, Janpath residence to its counsel Prashant Bhushan.

An SC bench had on September 8 ordered Sinha to file a response to CPIL’s application.

As permitted by the court, the CBI top boss submitted two affidavits — one a reply on merits in sealed envelope and the other with his objections to the application.
