Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishwavidyalya vice-chancellor KK Katoch on Wednesday directed officers of the departments of agriculture, horticulture and animal husbandry to guide the farmers to sow those crops that would not be damaged by simians and would also fetch good income to them.
It was time to help the farmers who were affected by mischievous simians, said Katoch, while addressing farmers and officers at a daylong seminar at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bara, in the district on Wednesday.
He exhorted the farmers to adopt and implement the latest farming techniques for a better produce and income, which it turn would enable them to stand on their feet.
Around 250 farmers and orchardists participated in the seminar to be benefited by the farm scientists' suggestions.
Katoch further said the Himachal government was all set to help the farmers in increasing their farm income through enhanced production. He advised farmers to sow only certified hybrid seeds and use minimum chemical fertilisers.
Speaking on the occasion, Hamirpur deputy commissioner Ashish Singhmar said such camps were of great help to the farmers in solving their farm-related problems. He advised the farmers to take every opportunity to attend such seminars and camps and follow the suggestions.
He told farmers to ensure that lists containing their demands, including seeds, fertilisers and others, was submitted to their cooperative societies and the departments concerned at least two months in advance of the starting of sowing season so that those items could be made available to them in time.
