The special investigation team (SIT) constituted by the Gujarat high court to probe the alleged Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case recreated on Sunday the scene at the firing-spot on the outskirts of Ahmedabad.

Apart from SIT Chairman Karnal Singh and members Mohan Jha and Satish Verma, experts from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and other forensic science specialists visited the spot.
Police officials GL Singhal and Tarun Barot, both involved in the encounter, were present to assist the experts.
SIT sources told HT the experts tried to enact the encounter events as described in the FIR filed after the encounter, in which a team of the city crime branch gunned down four persons in June 2004. The official version was that they were on a mission to kill Gujarat CM Narendra Modi.
The experts also examined the place where Ishrat and her three companions allegedly started firing at police from inside an Indica and how the security men retaliated.
In September 2009, local magistrate SP Tamang had said in his report the Ishrat encounter was fake. Tamang had recommended action against 22 police officials including the then commissioner of police Ahmedbad, KR Kaushik (now retired).
