Chicken tikka is out. Khaman-dhokla is in. Rashtrapati Bhavan is all set to spread out an all-vegetarian snacks menu on May 26 for its 3000-odd guests at the oath-taking function of the Modi government.

Not only has the usual menu, which consists of both vegetarian and non-veg dishes, been shelved but it is even undergoing last minute changes. All because of Narendra Modi who, in his farewell speech on Wednesday, had quipped, “Gujrati will be spoken in the PMO. You will also find khaman-dhokla!”

Top sources told HT that President Pranab Mukherjee noted Modi’s remarks and issued necessary instructions to bring in elements of Gujarat in the menu for the guests. Rashtrapati Bhavan officials promptly got in touch with Gujarat Bhavan officials in Delhi to seek suggestions for the menu.

Earlier, a simple menu was sealed: kachauri, veg patties, imarti and tea.

“The menu is evolving now”, said a source in the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
