People of Kotharia village in Rajkot district have built the temple which will be formally opened on Sunday.

“Earlier, we had put his photo frame and used to offer prayers but now got his idol made by an artist from Odisha. The idol will be installed in the temple now,” Ramesh Undhad, a villager and BJP worker said, describing Modi as a “divine man.”

The villagers collected around Rs 4.5 lakh to build the temple including the idol which cost them Rs. 1.6 lakh.

The villagers have invited local BJP leaders including the legislators and Rajkot MP and union minister Mohanbhai Kundaria for the temple opening ceremony.

“Every village in Gujarat should have Modi’s temple. After Sardar Patel, he is the most decisive and pro people leader from Gujarat. The way he transformed Gujarat, he will do now for the entire country,” Undhad said eulogising Modi’s tenure as chief minister of Gujarat from October 2001 to May 2014.

However, after Narendra Modi became Prime Minister, the villagers and particularly local BJP workers decided to covert the Mother India temple into a Narendra Modi temple with Modi’s idol.

“We are proud that our village has taken an initiative to build Modi temple. We hope that other villagers will also follow in our footstep,” Undhad, who also deals with realty, said.
