Gujjars' stir: Alert in western UP

The UP government issues an alert in western parts of the state in the wake of ongoing Gujjars' stir in Rajasthan.

The Uttar Pradesh government on Monday issued an alert in western parts of the state in the wake of ongoing Gujjars' stir in Rajasthan.

Concerned authorities were told to keep a hawk-eye vigil on activities of Gujjars to prevent any untoward incident, the Home Department said.

A number of districts in western UP had sizeable number of Gujjars and protests were witnessed in some areas prompting the state administration to sound alert.

Meanwhile, the All India Gujjar Mahasabha, at a meeting here, demanded dismissal of the BJP government in Rajasthan.

Mahasabha General Secretary Mohammad Hasan Gujjar urged the UPA government at the Centre to grant Scheduled Tribe status to members of the community at the earliest.
