Gunbattle between militants, troops on in south Kashmir

A suspected militant is believed to be killed in an ongoing gunbattle between militants and security forces in south Kashmir's Anantnag district today.

The encounter started in the morning when the security forces during a search operation confronted armed militants in village Lamad in Ananatnag district.

Preliminary reports suggest that a militant has been killed. The security forces, however, have not confirmed any casualty. Till late afternoon, firing between militants and security forces was on.

More troops have been sent to the area to help the personnel of the army's 9 Rashtriya Rifles to flush out militants.

The security forces suspect around two militants might be holed up in the village.
