Four shots were fired in the air by the rival bidders when two separate tenders were opened for road construction projects estimated at Rs 43 crore and Rs eight crore respectively, Deputy Superintendent of Police NK Lal told reporters here.

No one was injured in the incident but window panes of stationary vehicles were broken in the melee, the police officer added.

The police are investigating whether any contractor had hired shooters to get the tenders.

The SP's office was chosen for the bidding process to prevent any untoward incidents.
