The 41st-ranked Haas, a two-time semi-finalist here, downed 139th-ranked Luczak 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 in 2hr 37min with the roof of Rod Laver Arena closed because of the tournament's extreme heat policy.

Haas will now play either top seed Roger Federer or 30th seed Max Mirnyi in the round of 16 on Monday.
