Sony Playstation has just launched an all-new game, Hanuman — Boy Warrior, as the first of a list of India-specific products that will be launched this year. For the first time, Playstation content in India will be in a local language.

Playstation is looking at India’s existing three million gamers and 32 million Internet gaming visitors to drive growth.

Atindriya Bose, country manager, Sony Computer Entertainment – Playstation says, “New media and new forms of entertainment are gaining ground in India, where the youth population is very large.”

Following Hanuman are a couple of quiz games, one based on the engineering and medical entrance exams in India and the other on the UPSC (for IAS, IFS, IPS selections) exam curriculum in the form of a word quiz. These will be followed by a game set in an Indian village that includes kite flying, gilli danda and the garba dance.

Playstation closed fiscal 2008-09 with a 300 per cent growth and hopes the momentum will continue over the next few years as the nascent gaming market opens up.
