Harpreet Gill excels in AITA Ranking tennis

HARPREET GILL of Indore pairing with Naina won the second position in the AITA Ranking Rs 2 lakh prize money tournament played in Kolkata.

The Harpreet/Naina Karsolia pair played well to reach the final. In the quarterfinal they defeated Om Lata/Supriya pair by 6-1 and 6-2 and in the semifinal they beat Samya Jalazi/Jeleki Nerolen of Delhi by 6-1, 2-6 and 61. In the final, they lost to Vimal Ragini/Shivika Burman by 1-6 and 2-6.

In the individual event Gill reached the pre-quarterfinal. She lost to Soma Banerjee of Bengal by 2-6, 6-4 and 7-6. In the boy’s event Avneet Gill reached the main draw. In the first match he lost to top seeded Vinod Shridhar of Tamil Nadu by 1-6 and 1-6.

Indore Tennis Club office-bearers and coach have congratulated Harpreet and Avnit Gill for their brilliant performance.

Cricket tourney concludes
THE DISTRICT-LEVEL cricket tournament organised by Jai Mahakali Cricket Club at the High School ground of Sutarkhedi village near Mhow concluded yesterday.

Gujarkheda Cricket Club won the tournament defeating Friends XI of Santer village. Sixteen teams participated in the tournament.

The first semi-final was played between Rajendra Nagar Cricket Club and Friends XI which was won by Friends XI by three wickets and in the second semifinal, Gujarkheda Cricket Club defeated Pasipura Cricket Club by 55 runs
Mhow MLA Antar Singh Darbar was the chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony, while district panchayat vice-president Prahlad Singh Thakur presided over.

Mujeeb Qureshi, Pawan Tiwari, Satish Kadam and Rajendra Shrivas were the special guests. Darbar presented a trophy and Rs 5001 to the winning team. The runners-up team was presented a shield and Rs 2501. Kamal Jaiswal conducted the programme.

Siblings for tennis tourney
SIBLINGS Samar Ghoury, Yasar Pasha Ghoury and Nida Pasha will participate in the national table tennis championship to be organised in Jaipur.

According to a press release in Bhopal, it will be the 65th time when the three will participate in national championship. They represented the State in various age groups.
