One walked in a skeptic. The corner on the one-way, considerably traffic weary space in Juhu was considered somewhat shady in the past.

The unquestioning and transparent Brun Café opens literally on the road and one could see from the outside, it was a splitting image of the predecessor. Pool tables, couches on one side and high tables on the other. Walking in, the vibe of the place was distinctly dissimilar too.

Cult figurines and pictures from vintage movies and rockers are all over the walls and if nothing, this could be the set of a kitschy Bollywood song. The uncluttered décor has dark-wood paneling, lounge-friendly sofas. The music is retro and classic rock giving you the instant feeling that you could be at a garage jam session.

Right, now to order. The waiters were prompt on order-taking and pool-novice-rescuing as well. So far so good. We ordered Brun grilled paneer marinated in five spices, chicken and olive tapendae, parmesan crusted fish and chips and of course, the Brun iced coffee special. Except for the tapande — which was rare and too salty — our dinner spread was mouthwatering and satiating, to say the least.

What we like
The kitchsy décor
The quick service
Free wi-fi

What wedon’t like
No variety in the menu
The transparent windows make you feel like you’re sitting on the road.
