The world today is full of armed groups touting hatred. However, no faith on earth survives on hatred. Faith in hatred is a contradiction in terms. It is a historical fact that those propounding hatred are eventually wiped off the face of the earth by their own weapon.

It is hatred that made a mother girl strangle her new born daughter at a Delhi hospital this week. A hale and hearty child is one of God's greatest boons which countless couples ceaselessly wait for. Sometimes they adopt one if they can't have their own. Many others suffer because their child is born with a disability.

It is perhaps hatred of one's own life that drives a person to infanticide. Rather, it is lack of love that leads to such diabolical action. Maa Sarada, wife of Shri Ramakrishna Paramahansa once said that it is better to have some love for even a pet rather than having no love at all. When Ramakrishna breathed his last, Maa Sara da lost all will to live. Just then she saw a mentally deranged relative's daughter crawling towards her for help. She could not help but take the child into her arms.

This is not attachment in the worldly sense. If an attachment actually leads to the extension of one's personality for the welfare of all, it is better than detachment.
