Hazarika admitted to AIIMS, condition stable

The former minister was admitted in the casualty ward of AIIMS and would be under observation for the next two days.

Former Assam Transport Minister and senior AGP leader Pradip Hazarika, who was injured in an attack by suspected ULFA militants in Upper Assam, was on Wednesday night admitted at Delhi's All India Institute of Medical Sciences where his condition was stated to be stable.

Hazarika, who sustained injuries to his shoulder, right leg and hand in Tuesday's attack in Sibsagar district, was flown in from Dibrugarh where he was undergoing treatment.

He was admitted in the casualty ward of the AIIMS and would be under observation for the next two days, sources said adding his condition is stable and out of danger.

Another AGP member, Debananda Gohain, who was also injured in the attack, was also brought along with Hazarika and admitted in the AIIMS for treatment.

A group of militants riding a motorcycle ambushed the senior AGP leader, who is the candidate from Amguri assembly constituency, and nine others while they were travelling through Disu in Sibsagar district on Tuesday. Two PSOs were killed and seven others were injured in the attack.

He was minister in both the AGP-led Prafulla Kumar Mahanta ministries in 1985 and 1996.
