The employees had threatened to abstain from work indefinitely if their demand was not met. The recommendation, if accepted, will cost the exchequer Rs 1.6 crore per month.

Around 9000 class III and IV employees in the State are demanding the honorarium for increased working hours in the district courts from January 2. The employees had gone on mass leave on January 2 and 3 paralyzing the lower courts work across the state.

The decision follows a meeting Chief Justice AK Patnaik had with a delegation of the MP Nayayik Karmachari Sangh. The High Court earlier had forwarded the Sangh’s representation in this regard to the State government for consideration without any recommendation.

Also, the High Court has decided to recommend the government to increase the vehicle allowance paid to the stenographers visiting the residence of civil judges on official work from Rs 50 to Rs 500 in Bhopal, Jabalpur, Indore and Gwalior.
