The Karnataka High Court on Thursday adjourned hearing of the bail plea of self-styled godman Nityananda Swami, arrested on criminal charges including rape, to May 18.

Justice VB Pinto adjourned the hearing when the bail plea came up before the vacation bench.

The Sessions court at Ramanagara, 40 km from Bangalore, had Wednesday extended Nityananda's judicial custody to May 26.
Nityananda landed in a controversy in March after local TV channels aired purported video footage showing him in a compromising position with a Tamil actress. He was arrested from Solan in Himachal Pradesh on April 21.
