THE HIGH Court has allowed an application filed by the Dhanushyagya Ramlila Samiti, Sadar locality here, claiming that the Cantonment Board, Jabalpur, had decided to demolish the 133-year-old Ram Temple situated inside the Ramleela ground in Sadar for obstructing the traffic movement.
How can the temple inside the ground obstruct traffic, the petition asked. The court has sought reply from the Cantonment Board by January 25 on the application.
The Samiti intervened into a PIL seeking direction for removing the temples, mosques, dargahs and churches constructed on open the government land roadside obstructing smooth movement of traffic. The Ram Temple of Ramleela ground finds place in a list of 34 constructions mentioned by the Cantonment Board in its reply to the court on PIL saying this temple was obstructing traffic movement.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice A K Patnaik and Justice Dipak Misra allowed the Samiti’s application stating the temple is situated inside the ground encircled by a wall. The Samiti’s counsel Pankaj Dubey argued that the Cantonment Board was misleading the court by furnishing wrong details of the temple site that is far-off from the road.
