The Allahabad high court on Monday granted bail to former UP chief secretary Neera Yadav and Flex Industries owner Ashok Chaturvedi, after the two challenged their conviction and four-year jail term given by a Special CBI court on December 7 in a land scam case.
This land scam occurred when Yadav was Noida's chief executive officer in 1992-94.
The high court also stayed half of the fine imposed on Yadav, but refused to stay the fine imposed on Chaturvedi. The Special CBI court had fined the two Rs 50,000 each.
Justice Vinod Prasad, after hearing the counsels for the two accused, CBI counsel and state counsel, directed Chaturvedi to surrender his passport before the trial judge during the pendency of this criminal appeal.
In this appeal, both Yadav and Chaturvedi had requested the court to release them on bail during pendency.
Special CBI judge AK Singh had convicted Yadav and Chaturvedi on charges of criminal conspiracy and corruption in the case, where Yadav former flouted the norms and reduced land price she allotted to Flex Industries and Flex Engineering Companies controlled by Chaturvedi.
Counsels for the two accused had contended in the high court that there was no evidence to connect Yadav and Chaturvedi in the said case. The trial court's judgment was erroneous, illegal and had no substance at all, the counsels had argued.

{{/usCountry}}On Monday, Chaturvedi, who was released from Dasna district jail after he submitted his documents, left for Noida. "Yadav's documents could not be received in time and she will have to wait for her release," jail superintendent Viresh Raj Sharma told Hindustan Times.
Yadav's husband said her documents could not be received on Monday from Allahabad. "We will try to submit them on Tuesday," he said.
