HRD Minister Arjun Singh on Wednesday said the Calcutta High Court order staying OBC reservation in PG courses in the IIM-C will not affect its implementation in other elite educational institutions.
"The ministry will put forth its views before the High Court. The stay may delay the quota implementation in IIM, Calcutta, but it would not affect the process in other institutions," Singh told reporters here.
The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday also stopped interview of OBC candidates in the PG courses in IIM-C.
"There is no confusion about quota implementation in PG courses. But if the High Court feels so, we will put forth our argument and the court will decide," he said.
The Calcutta High Court in an ex-parte interim order granted stay on a petition challenging the HRD ministry's memorandum and also the IIM-C interview scheduled for Thursday.
The interim order of Calcutta High Court stayed till June nine the operation of the reservation clause of IIM prospectus and also the resolution of office memorandum dated April 20, 2008 passed by the HRD ministry.
A similar petition has also been filed in the Delhi High Court which has issued notice to the Centre on implementation of 27 per cent quota for OBCs in PG courses.
